Samsung seems to be regaining the top space in the mid-range smartphone segment in India. Powered by its new Galaxy M-series phones, the erstwhile market leader looks set to settle scores with the current table topper Xiaomi. On weighing up the Samsung Galaxy M20 with Asus Zenfone Max Pro M2, this is how they perform.
Samsung m series brings the Galaxy M20 design quite close to that of its competitors in the segment, and very different from the other Samsung offerings. The most prominent deviation from its existing smartphones is the introduction of ‘Infinity V’ display, a waterdrop notch placed above the screen. The notch houses the front camera nicely. It is available in two colours, Ocean Blue and Charcoal Black.
Zenfone Max Pro M2 is available in two colours, Blue and Titanium. The Glossy exterior feels similar to M20, with similar dimensions, though a bit lighter. The notch however is smaller, but adequate enough to house the front camera, selfie flash and the earpiece.
The Galaxy M20 brings in a 6.3-inch full-HD+ Infinity-V display with 1080×2340 pixels resolution, a pixel density of 409 ppi, and an aspect ratio of 19.5:9.
Zenfone Max Pro M2, is packed with a slightly smaller 6.26-inch 1080x2280pixels full HD panel, with a pixel density of 403 ppi, and an aspect ratio of 19:9. It also has the notch display, fortified with a corning gorilla glass 6 protection.
The Samsung Galaxy M20 brings in dual rear camera set with a 13-megapixel with an f/1.9 aperture primary camera, and a 5-megapixel 120◦ ultrawide angle lens with f/2.2 aperture secondary camera. Placed on the front is an 8MP F2.0 Front Camera + In-Display FlashUp for selfies and video calling, and also supports Face Unlock.
The Asus Zenfone Max Pro M2 is also a dual camera smartphone, and matches up a dual rear camera with similar features and a depth sensor. The rear camera has 12MP + 5MP specifications, while the front has a superior 13MP camera.
Platform & Storage
The Samsung Galaxy M20 packs an Exynos 7904 1.8 GHz octa-core processor, based upon 14nm FitFET process. The 2 variants carrying 3GB RAM + 32GB storage and 4GB RAM with 64GB storage respectively, can multitask effectively with social media, videos, gaming and videos.
The Zenfone Max Pro M2 comes with an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 processor (Compare with Helio P70) and 4 GB of RAM. Armed with its Adreno 512 GPU, user gets a smooth, powerful and lag-free experience. The 3 variants offer – 3GB RAM + 32GB storage, 4GB RAM + 64GB storage, and 6GB RAM + 64GB storage respectively.
Both the companies have equipped their phones with a massive 5000mAh battery, which is among the largest in the smartphone range.
Samsung Galaxy M20 though boasts of a unique in its segment 15W USB Type-C port fast charger.
The Zenfone Max Pro M2 meanwhile, comes with a microUSB port charger.
Software & Connectivity
Galaxy M20 comes with Android 8.1 Oreo OS and an Experience UI 9.5 skin. While the Zenfone Max Pro M2 has a near stock Android 8.1 Oreo.
Samsung & Asus both have plans to release a Pie update for their respective phones.
Both phones provide connectivity through dual SIM card slots with dual 4G VoLTE, GPS, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth support.
The Samsung Galaxy M20 has a base model with 32GB storage, and a top end model with 64GB storage. It is already in the market from February 5’2019.
The Asus Zenfone Max Pro M2 is available in three variants, segregated on the basis of RAM – 3GB, 4GB and 6GB respectively.
Price in India
Samsung Galaxy M20 Price: The base model with 32GB storage is priced at Rs 10,990. The top end model with 64GB storage is priced at Rs 12,990.
Asus Zenfone Max Pro M2 Price: It is priced at Rs 12,999 for the base model with 3GB RAM. The second variant with 4GB RAM is available at Rs 14,999. while the third variant 6GB RAM is priced at Rs 16,999.
