Redmi 7A vs Realme C2: Pick your next budget friendly smartphone

Xiaomi recently launched its entry-level smartphone Redmi 7A in India. The device comes with a starting price of Rs 5,999 for the 2GB RAM and 16GB internal storage variant. Another model with 2GB RAM and 32GB internal storage is available for Rs 6,199. The smartphone comes in Matte Blue, Matte Black, and Matte Gold color options. As compared to its previous sibling Redmi 6A, the new smartphone offers a better battery, camera, and processor.

On the other hand, Realme C2 (Buy Now) was launched in May 2019. The Realme C2 is priced at Rs 5,999 for the 2GB RAM and 16GB internal storage variant, while the 2GB RAM and 32GB storage model comes with a price tag of Rs 6,999, and Rs 7,999 for 3GB RAM and 32GB storage variant. The phone is available in Diamond Blue and Diamond Black color options.

Today we are comparing both the devices to find out which one is the real “Desh ka Smartphone”.

Design and Display:

Xiaomi has opted for a clean unibody design for Redmi 7A, with polycarbonate plastic exterior and a matte finish at back. The smartphone comes with rounded corners for an easy grip, and feels sturdy in hand. The company claims that the device comes with splash resistant protection.

Realme C2 also has a plastic body at the back, but it looks more appealing with its diamond cut pattern.  Realme C2 looks premium and feels sturdy in hand. Here both the phones have a better grip and fewer smudges and fingerprints to offer.

Redmi 7A sports a 5.45-inch HD+ IPS display with 18:9 aspect ratio, and a 76.7 percent screen to body ratio. While Realme C2 features a larger 6.1-inch HD+ dewdrop notch display with 1520 X 720 pixels resolution, 80.3 percent screen to body ratio, and a Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection.

Both smartphones offer a great viewing angles and good color reproduction. The display is pretty reflective under direct sun light, but brightness level could have been better on both devices.

Overall, Realme C2 offers a great diamond cut design and larger dewdrop notch display with Gorilla Glass 3 protection, and looks more premium and stylish as compared to Redmi 7 (Buy Now).

Performance and Software:

Redmi 7A is powered by a 2.0GHz octa-core Snapdragon 439 processor, paired with 2GB RAM and 16GB/32GB internal storage. On the other side, Realme C2 is powered by an octa-core Helio P22 chipset, coupled with 2GB/3GB RAM and 16GB/32GB internal storage respectively.

We get a decent performance from both devices in terms of day to day usage and app switching. PUBG is playable in low resolution, but we observe lags and frame drops during game play. We did not find any lag in casual gaming and app loading on both devices.

Redmi 7A runs MIUI 10 based on Android 9.0 Pie with host of interesting features like Second Space, Dark Mode, Dual Apps, Reading Mode, and many more. Realme C2 meanwhile runs Android 9.0 Pie with ColorOS 6.0 lite on top. Both smartphones come with lots of bloatware.

Redmi 7A comes out with a performance almost similar to Realme C2, with both equipped with entry- level chipsets. Both devices are not recommended for PUBG mobile lovers.

Camera:

Redmi 7A features a single 12MP Sony IMX 486 rear camera with f/2.2 aperture and LED flash. While the Realme C2 comes with dual camera setup featuring a 13MP primary sensor with f/2.2 aperture, and a 2MP depth sensor with f/2.4 aperture. Both smartphones sport a 5MP selfies camera each with f/2.0 aperture.

Here again, the daylight photography is very satisfying and very similar on both the phones, with both exhibiting good detail and natural colors. But neither of the two could impress in low light conditions. However, Realme C2 does score higher than Redmi 7A due to its dual rear cameras.

Battery:

Redmi 7A is backed by a 4000mAh battery with 10W charging support, while Realme C2 is fueled by same battery with 5V/1A charging support. On a single charge, the battery easily lasts more than a day on both smartphones.

Final Verdict:

Realme C2 seems more desirable with an attractive diamond cut design, larger dewdrop notch display and an additional depth sensor. Redmi 7A can be a decent alternative with unibody design, matte finish and upgraded camera, and can be a good next level for the Redmi 6A (Buy Now) owners looking to upgrade.
