Oppo A9 2020 Design and Display:
Oppo A9 2020 launched in India with large display and plastic body design. We liked the rear design of of the device, with its gradient design colour at back and Marine Green colour on edge. Due to its glossy plastic built, the surface is reflective, but can easily register fingerprint marks. We would also suggest you use a back cover for safety, as the rear side of the smartphone is quite slippery.
Oppo A9 2020 has 6.5-inch HD+ screen display and also 80% screen to body ratio. The smartphone has a waterdrop style notch on the top layer. It has provided Gorilla Glass 3+ protection both at front and back. It has 195 grams weight and phone measurement 16.36×7.56×0.91 cm, which makes it a bit taller than usual.
The smartphone comes with thinner bezels with round edges. The display is thicker (about 1 cm) at bottom of bezels. You can see that on the right-side power button is available for charging. SIM consists of two card slots for SIM and also an option for micro SD card to expand internal storage. It has a speaker at bottom of the device, also USB Type-C charging point and also 3.5mm headphone jack with a microphone placed below.
The smartphone has big-screen display good for playing video games and watching movies on phone. And while playing games you don’t need to give focus on brightness level. It will automatically adjust whether you stay at home or outside of the home. It will provide you with a very comfortable zone. The smartphone offers you three display colour temperature adjustment – cooler, warmer, with default option available. Overall, Oppo A9 Does not disappoint you in terms of design and display.
Oppo A9 2020 Camera:
Oppo A9 2020 boasts of having a Quad Camera set-up similar to its competitors in the market. It has 48-megapixel quad lens setup at the backside, with 8 – megapixel ultra-wide-angle camera with F2.25 aperture. And having 2- megapixel monochrome shooter with an aperture of F2.4, and 2 – megapixel depth sensor for portraits available. A front camera up to 16 – megapixel will give you good selfies in daylight mode also.
Let’s talk about some camera features of professional mode like Panorama mode, Portrait mode, Night screen mode, Time-lapse photography, Slow motion all these features make this smartphone camera unique. If you click images in broad daylight mode, then you are going to get impressed by the quality of the camera. We liked the bokeh effect in portrait mode very much, and also background separation & edge detection were very impressive.
This smartphone will give you clear and sharp images. The camera manages to retain the original natural colour in clicked photos. Another notable feature is a separate night mode for low light photography. Despite that, images clicked at night lack details, and you can easily notice tiny grains when zoomed out image.
It has a good mode for video shooting or if you like to shoot in slow motion feature and time-lapse and panorama feature. It supports video up to 4k@30fps, 1080p@30fps and 720p@30fps. But we did not quite like the limitation that the video can only be recorded through the primary rear camera.
Oppo A9 2020 Performance:
Oppo A9 2020 is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 655 octa-core processor with Adreno 610 GPU support. During our review, we found it works well during multitasking. The handset processor is satisfactory in handling heavy games like PUBG and Asphalt 9. A game boost 2.0 feature enhances the gaming experience. Good news for the gamers is that there were no noticeable issues of heating while playing any game for a long time.
The handset works on ColorOS 6.1 based on Android 9 Pie operating system. And there are few apps already installed like Paytm, UC Browser, Newspoint, WPS and others. However, if users want to uninstall, then they can do easily without facing any problem.
The low-resolution screen of the device feels a little underwhelming, but still good enough for playing videos. The presence of Widevine L1 DRM helps stream HD videos adequately. But it is the stereo speakers that really steal the show. The accompanying earpiece carries lesser power than the bottom speaker, but as compared to other phones around, gives a more immersive feeling.
On checking the benchmarks, the device scored 1,69,200 points in AnTuTu, while Geekbench 5 produced 302 and 1,300 respectively. Other tests like GFXBench’s T-rex and Manhattan 3.1 got 50fps and 25fps. PUBG Mobile was a little up and down, and so was with the Asphalt 9 performance.
Oppo A9 2020: Battery
Oppo A9 2020 comes with a long-lasting battery backup of 5000mAH. During our review, a single full charge took us through a day full of surfing, gaming, video streaming, and other general activities, and still leaving us with about 40% life. The phone comes with an 18W charger with USB Type-C, which definitely is a plus. On the flip side, it takes too much time to complete the full charge, as there is no fast charging.
We found the reverse charging quite good. It did a decent job of using the phone as a power bank to charge other devices. The user though has to ensure the required cable or adapter to use with the Type-C port.
Overall this smartphone is good in design and performance, and has an exceptional battery back-up. Primary camera’s capabilities make the phone good along with the useful wide-angle lens. The other 2 cameras just add up the numbers to make it a quad-camera phone. Reverse charging and good quality speakers enhance the phone’s value and acceptance.
A dampener though is the price, which does not feel competitive considering other phones with similar features. The Lower 4GB variant can get some traction because of its large storage size, especially after the announced price cut. The 8GB variant Pricing feels even more aggressive to win over the competitors.
