LG W30 vs Redmi Note 7S: The battle of Budget Smartphones

LG W30 has been launched in June 2019 as the latest addition to company’s W-series. The device comes with a price tag of Rs 9,999 for the 3GB RAM and 32GB internal storage variant. The phone is available in two color options: Thunder Blue and Platinum Grey.

By that time, Redmi Note 7S had already been launched in May 2019. The phone arrived as an upgraded version of Redmi Note 7. The smartphone comes in Sapphire Blue, Onyx Black, and Ruby Red color options. The device is priced at Rs 10,999 for the 3GB RAM and 32GB internal storage variant. The 4GB RAM and 64GB internal storage variant comes with a price tag of Rs 12,999. Let’s compare both the devices and find which one is more likely to dominate in the budget segment.

LG W30 rear panel has a 2.5D covered polycarbonate plastic body with brushed aluminum pattern, that looks very premium and radiant under lights. The front glass and sides have rounded corners which make it very comfortable to hold.

Redmi Note 7S comes with a sandwich glass body design, protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 5. The sides are made of plastic, but still it looks very stylish. The company claims that, the Note 7S has P2i nano coating, which makes it splash proof.

Overall both portray premium looks, with LG W30 carrying a little edge over Redmi Note 7s.

The LG W30 features a 6.26-inch HD+ FullVision display with a 1520 x720 pixels screen resolution, and 19:9 aspect ratio. The device comes with an option to hide the notch from settings, which is a welcome move from LG.

On the other hand, Redmi Note 7S sports a 6.3-inch full HD+ water-drop notch display with screen resolution of 2340 x 1080 pixels, and 19.5:9 aspect ratio.

Both smartphones offer a good display with vivid colors and good viewing angles. It is Redmi Note 7S though which wins this battle with full HD+ display, slim bezels, and sharpness levels.

Performance and Software:

The LG W30 is powered by MediaTek Helio P22 chipset with 3GB RAM and 32GB storage, which is expandable via microSD card. On the other hand, Redmi Note 7s comes loaded with Snapdragon 660 chipset, along with Adreno 512GPU.

Redmi Note 7S easily handles multitasking, app switching and heavy games like PUBG and Asphalt 9 without any noticeable lag. LG W30 meanwhile is good for day to day usage and casual gaming. Overall, Redmi Note 7S offers better performance than LG W30 in budget segment. And anyway, we already knew that Helio P22 is not as powerful as Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 (Compare with Helio P70).

However, there are a few points worth considering. Redmi Note 7S runs on MIUI 10 based on Android 9.0 Pie, which comes with a lot of bloatware. There are some preloaded spammy Mi apps which send us notifications throughout the day. On the other side, LG W30 runs on Android 9.0 Pie. The company provides a near stock Android experience with minimal bloatware. We have found, the UI is lightweight and quite smooth on W30 as compared to Note 7S.

LG W30 sports a triple rear camera setup, featuring 12MP primary sensor with f/2.0 aperture, 13MP wide-angle lens, and a 2MP depth sensor. The phone has a 16MP front camera for selfies and video calls. The device is able to capture decent shots in day-light condition. Wide-angle lens works fine to capture more area. Bokeh mode looks artificial in most scenarios. The 16MP selfie camera also does a good job.

Redmi Note 7S features a dual camera setup, sporting a 48MP Samsung GM1 primary sensor with an f/1.8 aperture, and a 5MP depth sensor. The smartphone comes with 13MP selfie camera. Note 7s is able to capture decent shots in various lighting conditions with good amount of detail and natural colors. Overall, Redmi Note 7S has better cameras for photography, while LG 30 has an advantage of wide-angle lens.

Redmi Note 7S and LG W30 both possess similar battery capacity at 4000mAh, which easily lasts a full day on single charge. But Note 7s comes with a Quick Charge 4.0 support, that could be a deal maker.

Final Verdict:

LG W30 is good budget smartphone with great design, triple cameras, larger battery and clean UI. Redmi Note 7S though wins this battle with Full HD+ display, 48MP camera, same battery with fast charging support and Gorilla Glass protection.
